[TW//Suicide]

September is suicide prevention awareness month around the world, with September 10th being suicide prevention awareness day - our charity of the month Papyrus exist to reduce the number of young people who take their own lives by shattering the stigma around suicide and equipping young people and their communities with the skills to recognise and respond to suicidal behaviour. Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under 35 in the UK. Every year many thousands more attempt or contemplate suicide, harm themselves or suffer alone, afraid to speak openly about how they are feeling.

We wanted to open up the conversation at Hoogah and offer support and help through being a safe space and offering helplines and charities. As the year draws to a close and the weather gets bleaker, people generally feel lower than throughout the brighter/warmer months. Drawing attention to support and charities that can respond adequately to suicide prevention is something that we'd like to implement throughout the year as suicide can occur at any time and being able to recognise that is paramount in the prevention of people taking their lives. For more information on Papyrus head to their website to learn more and for any support that may be necessary to you.
